An M.A. in Social Development Studies from the University of Utrecht, Ms. Emmy Janssen has been contributing for the advancement of children and women in developing countries. Ms. Janssen has worked with the United Nations in Thailand and Indonesia (with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and UNICEF) for about 10 years. Ms. Janssen has been continuing her work from The Netherlands since the year 2000, initially with the Dutch branch of the international NGO Plan International, and since 2006 with the private foundation Stichting Het Groene Woudt.
Ms. Janssen with her sheer efforts has been promoting programmes that promote sustained economic development in rural areas of developing countries, e.g. Tanzania, Kenya, India and Indonesia, and in all these programs, specific attention is paid to give women access to resources so as to improve their livelihoods.
